Magnesium to support a healthy body

Fusion Magnesium Advanced supports healthy muscle, nervous system, cardiovascular function, and energy production, and helps maintain exercise performance. Magnesium is involved in a vast number of physiological functions throughout the body and is essential for the functioning of many organs and tissues, but many Australians don’t obtain adequate amounts of it from their diets.

For example, research indicates that the diets of more than half of all Australian adolescents don’t provide the quantities of magnesium they require1, and research from the Australian Bureau of Statistics has found that only around one in four older Australians consumes enough magnesium in their diets2.

Taking a magnesium supplement is a convenient way to top up the magnesium you consume in your daily diet, but for optimal absorption, it’s important to choose a supplement that’s highly bioavailable.

Whats does Fusion Magnesium Advanced do?

Fusion Magnesium Advanced combines four forms of organic magnesium including OptiChel™ MG (magnesium glycinate) for superior absorption and bioavailability while minimising digestive upset, compared to inorganic magnesium salts. For example, the magnesium glycinate in Magnesium Advanced may be absorbed up to eight times more readily than the magnesium oxide found in some other supplements – and since it’s an organic mineral, highly stable and chemically neutral, it doesn’t interact with other essential nutrients or interfere with their absorption.

How it works

Magnesium is required for a vast number of body functions. For example, it supports healthy muscle function, where it plays an important role in facilitating normal muscle relaxation and contraction.

Fusion Magnesium Advanced helps reduce muscle cramps, twitches, spasms and weakness when due to inadequate magnesium intake.

Taking Magnesium Advanced may also help to relieve hyperexcitability and sleeplessness when these issues are related to inadequate magnesium consumption.

Supports healthy muscle, nerve and cardiovascular function, as well as energy and exercise performance.

Magnesium is also important for supporting cellular energy production, bone and cardiovascular health, and blood sugar regulation in healthy people.

Fusion Magnesium Advanced tablets combine four forms of organic magnesium including OptiChel magnesium glycinate, which may be absorbed more readily than some other forms of magnesium, such as magnesium oxide.

Magnesium glycinate is delivered intact to the intestines for easy absorption and is gentle on the stomach.

What is Magnesium?

Magnesium is a mineral found in the earth, sea, plants, animals and humans. About 60% of the magnesium in your body is found in bone, while the rest is in muscles, soft tissues and fluids, including blood. In fact, every cell in your body contains it and needs it to function. ref

What is Magnesium good for?

Cardiovascular health. One of magnesium’s most important jobs is to regulate muscle function throughout the body—and that includes the heart muscle. In the body, magnesium helps the heart maintain a healthy rhythm. It also helps regulate blood pressure and the production of cholesterol. ref

Does magnesium help you sleep?

Magnesium helps this process by regulating the neurotransmitters and ultimately calming your nervous system in readiness for sleep. It also works alongside melatonin—a hormone your body produces naturally—to control your body clock and sleep-wake cycles. ref

Organic versus inorganic minerals

Minerals come in two forms: organic and inorganic. In this context, the word ‘organic’ doesn’t refer to pesticide-free farming but refers to compounds that contain organic acids e.g. amino acids (the building blocks of protein).

In many instances, the minerals found in supplements are inorganic. For example, zinc is often found bound with sulfur to form zinc sulfate, while magnesium may be bound to oxygen to form magnesium oxide.

Absorption of inorganic minerals

When you consume an inorganic mineral, your body starts to break it down quickly due to the acidic environment of the stomach. This free mineral can then bond to other compounds it encounters during digestion. For example, when an inorganic mineral like zinc is consumed in or with whole grains, nuts and some vegetables, it may get bound to (or ‘trapped in’) compounds called phytates that are naturally present in these foods, and consequently, the body may not be able to absorb it.
Increasing dietary sources of zinc and magnesium are the obvious first choice here. Foods that are high in zinc include chicken, beef, dairy, shellfish, oysters, cereals, chickpeas, spinach and pumpkin seeds. Source of dietary magnesium include fish, almonds, bananas, avocados, spinach, black beans and yoghurt.

But if you aren’t getting enough of these minerals from your diet, you could consider taking a good quality mineral supplement.

However, your ability to absorb minerals from a supplement can be affected by the form the mineral comes in.
