How Does Dopamine Make Us Feel

Dopamine is one heck of a neurotransmitter. It’s responsible for carrying messages between the cells in our brains and making sure our general happiness levels don’t get all out of whack. It’s involved in regulating many of our daily happenings including motor control, reward and reinforcement, and motivation. So, how does dopamine make us feel and how can we work with it to make sure we’re living happy content lives? Looking for What Is Dopamine And What Is Its Function?

What causes dopamine to be released?

Dopamine is released when we do things we enjoy. We might find ourselves swimming in it when we meditate, exercise, or eat something delicious that we love. This weaves in with the theory that dopamine is what can cause us to become obsessed or create an addiction within our mentality. For example, gambling makes some people feel good, so they keep going back to the casino, seeking out the dopamine boost that comes with winning.

Symptoms of low dopamine levels?

When our dopamine levels are lacking we tend to feel a little less happy and a little more “meh” about our lives in general. The following symptoms may appear if your dopamine levels are at a low point.

  • Fatigue,
  • Apathy,
  • Lack of focus,
  • Forgetfulness,
  • Moodiness,
  • Difficulty concentrating,
  • Insomnia,
  • Sugar cravings, and
  • Lower motivation.

It’s no surprise that low dopamine has been linked to depression and other mood-based conditions.

How to increase dopamine levels

If you’re suffering from low dopamine levels, there are a few ways to regulate this. We can do things that make us happy or excited (causing a release of dopamine) including eating sugary foods, exercising or reaching “home base” (I’m not talking baseball). It’s important to note though that constantly reaching for a dopamine hit can cause addictive behaviours including gambling and alcohol addiction.

For a healthy way to increase your dopamine levels, we have quite a range of dopamine promoting pre-workout supplements available in our store. They all contain an ingredient called tyrosine that naturally helps to increase dopamine receptors in our brain. Check out a few of them below!
